John planned to become a music technologist until a television producer suggested that he would look good on screen. Leslie sent a demo tape to every broadcaster and in the end, John was hired to present Yorkshire TV’s The Music Box. He moved to London when the show ended in 1987. John was the first Scottish presenter at Blue Peter on 20 April 1989. He is also the tallest presenter at Blue Peter at 6’4 ft. Moreover, he was the second Blue Peter presenter to participate in the 1991 London marathon. It took him 4 hours and 36 minutes to complete the marathon.
Leslie’s next role was as a reporter for This Morning on ITV. In 2001, he joined Fern Britton to replace Richard and Judy as regular hosts on This Morning. His departure from This Morning in 2002 was due to a serious allegation about his private life made in the press. John was cleared of a charge against him in 2003.
