Dana Carvey’s Early Life & Family
Carvey was born in Missoula, Montana, to Billie Dahl, a teacher, and Bud Carvey, a high school business teacher, the fourth child in a family of five (three brothers and one sister). Carvey is the brother of Brad Carvey, the engineer and designer of Video Toaster. Brad is loosely based on the character Garth Algar. Carvey was raised Lutheran and has English, German, Irish, Norwegian, and Swedish ancestry. His family moved to San Carlos, California, in the San Francisco Bay Area, when he was three years old. He attended Tierra Linda Middle School in San Carlos, Carlmont High School in Belmont, California (where he was a member of the Central Coast Section champion cross country team), and San Mateo College in San Mateo, California, before graduating from San Francisco State University with a bachelor’s degree in broadcast communications. He won the Stand-Up Comedy contest in San Francisco in 1977.
Dana Carvey’s Personal Life (Girlfriend, Wife & Children)
Childhood sweethearts Leah & Dana Carvey married in 1979. Carvey met and fell in love with Paula Zwagerman while appearing at The Other Cafe in San Francisco during his marriage. Carvey had heart surgery in 1997 for a blocked coronary artery, but the surgeon performed the procedure on the wrong artery. The clogged artery is hidden deep in the muscle, making it difficult to locate; however, another thing, the artery is not blocked easily accessible. The bypass was performed on an unobstructed artery by mistake. As a result, Carvey suffered from angina and successfully sued for $7.5 million in damages. He gave the money to a good cause. He needed further surgery to resolve his heart problems. He told Newsday that Frank Sinatra died in the room next to him while he was at the hospital for his final angioplasty. Dana Carvey’s career
Dana Carvey established himself as a stand-up comedian in 1977. That year, he won the San Francisco Stand-up Comedy Competition, his first major achievement. Critics criticized it so mercilessly that Carvey stayed out of the limelight until 2011. That same year, he starred in another disaster, “Jack and Jill”.
