Samsung Gold Copying Apple?

Samsung Gold Copying Apple? Samsung has recently released a blog post in which the South Korean giant hits back at allegations that it copied Apple in releasing a gold version of its flagship phone, the Samsung Galaxy S4, by making it clear to consumers that it has been selling gold phones for a long time and this Galaxy S4 is just another addition to the amount of gold phones the company has made. Samsung lists about 9 gold phones in the blog post but doesn’t mention Apple or the allegations of copying directly in the post.

In the post Samsung also hinted at the fact that they announced the gold edition of the GS4 before the Apple iPhones had been unveiled, so technically they had the idea before Apple did.

“About a month ago on August 27th, Samsung launched the GALAXY S4 Gold edition in the United Arab Emirates (These were available in stores starting September 8th). It’s since also been released in Kuwait and Qatar.

Everybody loves gold, which is why we sometimes make phones in that color. (Or sometimes even with actual gold for the body!) See below to check out some of the phones we’ve released in gold in the past (just off the top of my head).”

While Samsung has released a slew of gold phones in the past, there were rumours that Apple would release a gold version of their iPhone so one could argue it would make sense for Samsung to create a gold phone so that it would be ready to compete with Apple.

Clearly Samsung isn’t taking any chances with its reputation given the fact that it lost a case in 2012 and has to pay Apple quite a bit of money because of that.

What do you think of these allegations of copying and does Samsung’s explanation suffice for you? Please leave a comment below and we will get back to you.
